Tulsa, Oklahoma sits in the center of the U.S., Central Southwest, built next to the Arkansas River. Tulsa has 570 square miles situated in two counties and encompassing ten satellite cities. Tulsa may be described by some as a "small town sophisticate", with great shopping malls and the arts.
Tulsa was essentially built by oil barons in the 1920s when it was truly considered "The Oil Capital of the World", relinquished only in the 1980s. Tulsa´s rolling hills terrain is always a happy surprise to those who move here expecting flat lands and teepees.
Tulsa´s architecture is varied in style from its downtown buildings trimmed in "Rocco" art deco, to it´s several Frank Lloyd Wright contemporary homes sprinkled about and its many oil baron mansions which remain today. Downtown Tulsa is built parallel to the River, with biking, walking trails and services meandering the 7 miles along Riverside Drive, decorated by Tulsa´s local artists in fantastic wildlife, bigger-than-life Bronzes along the way.
Certainly considered a "family" town, Tulsa maintains its small town persona while offering Broadway plays and musicals, live theatre, outstanding orchestral concerts and big name Artists who perform in Tulsa. Additionally, Tulsa attracts Hollywood Producers who like to film here not only for its topography but for its unlimited supply of willing "extras" for filming.
Tulsa has produced many famous musicians and movie stars, from Count Basie who once lived and performed in the Greenwood District, Garth Brooks who lives just north of Tulsa, J. J.
